OkCupid compiled a report based on what they found where better online dating profile pics. They published the results on their website. The statistical data was based on more than 7,000 photographs that were analyzed. So, what did they find? Well, there were many things, but here we outline 5 tips for better online dating profile pics based on what the OK Cupid study found.

Tip 1: Always look directly into the camera, so that your photo makes eye-contact with the person that is viewing it online. The only difference between the sexes was direct eye-contact + smiling was more effective for women, while with guys no smile was better.

Tip 2: Believe it or not, self-shot pics did better overall than those taken by others. So, combine the direct eye-contact + the self-shot pic, and you are well on your way.

Tip 3: Show some skin. The study found that women who show cleavage had significantly more online interactions from men. The same went for men with athletic bodies. So, to recap, direct eye-contact + self-shot + skin.

Tip 4: Your face doesn’t actually matter. Yes, contrary to what we were previously told, the study found that all things equal, an adventurous pic with part of your body or a profile (side angle with a head turned) was showed no big difference between those with the points mentioned above.

Tip 5: If you want “legitimate conversation,” in other words, people that are interested in serious dating, the best profile pics included the person doing some interesting hobby, a pet picture, or a travel photo.
